Comment on Rich article (New York Times)

August 31st, 2008 1:27 pm

I haven't always thought Mr. Rich was "spot on" but this time I think he is. The media, in its effort to redefine itself in a time where the printed page is rapidly becoming obsolete due to the growth of the internet, has indeed been "bloviating" up a storm.

The stories concerning the election are the biggest case in point. They go on and on rather foolishly with, mostly, the same talking points on each side of the fence but with an effort to create drama: the supposed "closeness" of the race, the "Bilaries" and their supposed behind-the-scenes maneuvering, the success or failure of each of Barack's moves.

And now, the utterly preposterous anointing of an Alaskan beauty queen-Governor as John McCain's running mate. I don't see how McCain can stick with this ill-advised and cynical attempt to woo Hillary's disgruntled supporters but there have been wringing of hands on the Democratic side. "Oh what shall we do now to counter this 'brilliant' maneuver on McCain's part?"

What "brilliant" maneuver? McCain is still the same stumblebum he was when the campaign began and this move simply reeks of desperation.

I'm tired of reading the endless microscopic analyses of Obama's every move and McCain's supposed brilliance. The people who write them should get a life!

Enough already!
