Lawrence O'Donnell: The Stupidity Of The Gates Arrest


Mr. O'Donnell is right. When the president called the arrest stupid, he was also right. When he invited both the policeman and Mr. Gates to the White House for a beer, he was being stupid. Mr. Gates had nothing to apologize for; it was his house and his rights were the ones being violated, not Mr. Crowley's.



Mr. Obama doesn't need to be Mr. Nice Guy in this case. We don't know if this was a case of racial profiling or not and it doesn't matter what the policeman thought. It was a clear case of police bullying. And, yes, I repeat, it was very stupid.
